OS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I recently switched from Ubuntu 20.10 to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pop.system76.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pop! OS<\/a>.<\/strong> One of the challenges I had was configuring shared folders I want mapped on my <a href=\"https:\/\/pop.system76.com\/\">Pop! OS<\/a> machine. I copied the lines from my previous <strong>\/etc\/fstab<\/strong> file that mounted the shares previously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1349\" height=\"104\" src=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fstab.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fstab.png 1349w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fstab-300x23.png 300w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fstab-1024x79.png 1024w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fstab-768x59.png 768w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/fstab-660x51.png 660w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1349px) 100vw, 1349px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Install Samba: <strong>sudo apt install samba<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Set SMB pasword: <strong>smbpassword -a &lt;Username&gt;<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"381\" height=\"129\" src=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/smbpassword1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-56\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/smbpassword1.png 381w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/smbpassword1-300x102.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 381px) 100vw, 381px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But when I when I ran the command mount -a, I received the following error: <strong>bad option; for several filesystems (e.g. nfs, cifs) you might need a \/sbin\/mount. helper program.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"100\" src=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/smberror1-1-1024x100.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-58\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/smberror1-1-1024x100.png 1024w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/smberror1-1-300x29.png 300w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/smberror1-1-768x75.png 768w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/smberror1-1-660x65.png 660w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/smberror1-1.png 1350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After a few minutes, I figured it out, I needed to install cifs-utils: <strong>apt install cifs-utils<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now when I ran the mount -a command, no errors and the mapped shares now work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"352\" height=\"62\" src=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/mountworked.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/mountworked.png 352w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/mountworked-300x53.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 352px) 100vw, 352px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently switched from Ubuntu 20.10 to Pop!
