Take a look at Gparted showing a flash drive below with the Linux Mint ISO on it.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-275\" style=\"width:840px;height:305px\" width=\"840\" height=\"305\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>When I attempt to delete the Partition in GParted, it is greyed out. If you try to format it, you will also get an error. The proper method is to use a command like: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>sudo dd status=progress if=\/dev\/zero of=\/dev\/sde bs=4k &amp;&amp; sync<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem is this takes forever to run and zero out the entire flash drive. What I do is probably considered some hillbilly method but it works and works fairly quickly. I only seem to need to use this method when I want to reformat a flash drive shown as an ISO format. I run the <strong>shred<\/strong> <strong>-v<\/strong> command and let it run for about 10% to 15% (Which takes only a couple of minutes typically). I then hit CTRL C to cancel the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-280\" style=\"width:773px;height:343px\" width=\"773\" height=\"343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb4.png 773w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb4-300x133.png 300w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb4-768x341.png 768w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb4-660x293.png 660w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 773px) 100vw, 773px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Remove the flash drive and re-insert it. Now go into Gparted and create a partition table and format the flash drive any way you want. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-277\" style=\"width:839px;height:582px\" width=\"839\" height=\"582\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb2.png 778w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb2-300x208.png 300w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb2-768x533.png 768w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb2-660x458.png 660w, https:\/\/tekweis.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/usb2-200x140.png 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 839px) 100vw, 839px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now I format the flash drive however I want.
